History of St Nicholas Perivale

St Nicholas was planted in the 1930’s from St Mary’s, Perivale which is one of London's oldest churches. Dating back to at least the early thirteenth century, the church still stands today and is beautifully maintained as a venue for classical music concerts.

In 1934 a small garage was built in the garden of 25 Devon Close to host services for the ever growing population of Perivale. Just a year later the building of a dual-purpose hall in Federal Road was possible due to the hard work and sacrifice of a small but growing number of people. It was dedicated as St Nicholas Church.

Twenty-six years later (circa 1960s), work began on a new permanent church building for Perivale. On the land in front of the existing church hall in Federal Road was built a large worship centre for church and community. It was a much-loved building which served its purpose for over four decades.

a church FOR THE 21ST CENTURY

The turn of the new millennium brought with it concerns over the build quality of the existing church. The persistence and fortitude of the St Nicholas community, evidenced since the 1930’s was going to be needed again. By the grace and goodness of God, our new Church Centre was opened in 2015 offering an eco-friendly space for up to 200 worshipping Christians, plus multi-use facilities to help serve the wider community.

The current Rector, Rev’d Natasha Beckles, was instituted on Wednesday 28th February 2024. This was a joyous occasion.
